Arne Slot provides worrying injury update on Alisson Becker after Liverpool beats Crystal Palace

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has provided a worrying injury update on Reds goalkeeper Alisson following his substitution against Crystal Palace .

The Reds ran out 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace to stay top of the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with Diogo Jota scoring the only goal of the game. However, two notable talking points from the clash at Selhurst Park were the decisions by Slot to take off Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson.

Mac Allister was substituted at half-time for Dominik Szoboszlai, with the Argentine reportedly sporting an ice pack on his thigh in the Selhurst Park dugout after being taken off. Alisson meanwhile was forced off injured with a hamstring injury.

A pass back to the Reds goalkeeper on 77 minutes from Trent Alexander-Arnold saw Alisson immediately pull up asking to be substituted following his clearance, with the Brazilian replaced by Vitezslav Jaros - who was on the bench due to Caoimhin Kelleher missing the clash at Selhurst Park because of illness.

With Liverpool players set to depart on international duty next week, it will be interesting to see whether or not Mac Allister is involved with Argentina in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Regarding Alisson, it seems unlikely he will play any part in Brazil's upcoming fixtures. A hamstring injury could sideline Alisson for weeks which would mean he will miss Brazil's games against Chile and Peru.

Speaking after the 1-0 win, Slot said: "It is a tough run of fixtures. We probably won't be as dominant as we were today when we play Arsenal. All fixtures are difficult. It is up to us to show up in the big games. Unfortunately Ali will not be with us in those matches, I assume, because of how he walked off.

"It was very good to see our third goalkeeper perform, with Caoimhin being sick yesterday. It is always nice to see everyone involved. Jaros had a very good season last season in Austria. We trust him a lot. He wanted to go out on loan to play again. But we need a third goalkeeper and we were right."

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk also admitted after the game Alisson's injury did not look good. "Alisson's injury doesn't look good," Van Dijk said after the win. He added: "It looks like a hamstring injury which was already bothering him, and from which he recovered."

Liverpool.com says: "Liverpool will hope the two injuries are nothing serious and that Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson are fine to pick up where they left off when the Reds return to action on October 20th against Chelsea. While Mac Allister's substitution may have been more precautionary, a major injury to Alisson would be a blow to the Reds, who sit top of the table heading into the international break."
