Liverpool immediately takes matters into own hands after Alisson injury blow

Liverpool has promptly notified the Brazilian FA that Alisson will NOT be available for its October internationals.

Brazil is set to face off against Chile and Peru in a World Cup qualifying double-header. However, they'll be entering these matches without their goalkeeper Alisson, who was forced to leave the pitch during Liverpool's triumph over Crystal Palace.

The 32-year-old fell during the second half of the match and it was immediately apparent that he was in distress. As expected, he couldn't carry on, leading to Vitezslav Jaros being called up for his senior debut with the Reds.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot gave a grim evaluation following the game . It seemed certain that Alisson would be sidelined for a while, and Brazilian media have indicated that this has now been confirmed.

As initially reported by Globo , Brazil has already summoned Weverton as Alisson's stand-in. The Selecao's medical team reached out to Liverpool after the Palace match and was informed that the Reds' player wouldn't be able to participate in the forthcoming matches.

Weverton, aged 36, has represented his country in 10 matches. His last appearance was in 2023, when the Palmeiras keeper played the entire 90 minutes of a friendly against Morocco.

Brazil had a sluggish start to their qualification campaign, securing just one point from their four matches in 2023. They also suffered a defeat at the hands of Paraguay in September, with their current total of 10 points from eight games leaving their qualification prospects uncertain.

"The fixtures are difficult but I have also felt how difficult Wolves away is and how difficult Crystal Palace away is," Slot conveyed to TNT Sports following the triumph at Selhurst Park, where Diogo Jota's first-half goal was pivotal. "We will probably not be as dominant as we were today when we face Arsenal away but both fixtures are difficult."

"But it's very good that we won these games and it's up to us to show ourselves in the big games as well. Unfortunately Ali won't be with us in those matches I assume, if I saw how he walked off the pitch."

Slot didn't hold back on his commendations for Jaros, who stepped up as Caoimhin Kelleher was sidelined due to illness. "Really good," he expressed. "He had a good season and he won the league and cup with the team [Sturm Graz] in Austria [last season]."

"He wanted to go [back this season] and have playing time. We said at a club like this we need a good third goalkeeper as well. It was a nice moment for him to make his debut for Liverpool."
