Oliver Glasner was left fuming over Crystal Palace's penalty shout after Virgil van Dijk seemingly pulled Marc Guehi's shirt during their tight 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Diogo Jota secured the win for the Reds with an early notch on the scoreboard, but the spotlight at Selhurst Park quickly shifted to a contentious non-call in the second period. Glasner reckoned Van Dijk had fouled Guehi , impeding the Palace captain's push to meet the ball at the back stick.

VAR gave the incident a once-over before siding with the on-field official's judgment. The Premier League later backed up the no-penalty verdict , explaining: "The referee's call of no penalty for the challenge by Van Dijk on Guehi is checked and confirmed by VAR - deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play."

Glasner, however, wasn't buying what they were selling. He responded: "I saw from TV we should have had a clear penalty for the foul on Marc Guehi.

"In this situation, Marc goes for the ball, it influences his run. I don't know why it's not a penalty, it's frustrating. He [Virgil van Dijk] holds him with two hands. It is clear when Marc makes the movement to the ball. If the same foul is on the halfway line it's a a foul - if it's foul, it's a foul.

"I didn't see it during the game and for me it was a clear foul. VAR had to intervene but they didn't."

Despite the post-match grievances, Glasner did express pride in his squad's resilience after the break, even though an equalizer against the table-toppers remained elusive.

Speaking on Match of the Day, he remarked: "We showed a great reaction in the second half, we created chances but did not take them. We also didn't get the penalty. The second half gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

"I don't expect that we have so many chances all over the game because they are very well organised, very good defending and don't concede goals. We had a lot in the second half and that is what we have to continue."
