Harvey Elliott shares cryptic injury update as Liverpool star eyes return to action

Harvey Elliott has hinted that his recovery from injury is progressing as expected, having been absent from Liverpool's last seven matches in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has been out of action since September due to a foot fracture sustained while representing England's Under-21s.

It was revealed last month that Elliott was optimistic about returning to the pitch after the international break, with Liverpool's next match being a home game against Chelsea at Anfield on October 20.

  • On Wednesday, the midfielder suggested that his comeback is on schedule by posting an Instagram story of himself at the Reds' Kirkby facility, accompanied by several hourglass emojis.

The start of the new season has been challenging for Elliott, who, despite shining during Liverpool's summer tour of the United States, couldn't secure a spot in Arne Slot's starting XI in the initial weeks of the season.

Elliott's sole appearance this season was in the final moments of the 2-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield on August 25, where goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah maintained the Reds' strong start to the season.

After learning of Elliott's injury, boss Slot said: ""Harvey's injury is, of course, not a just big disappointment for him but also for us.

"He didn't play a lot in the first three games but he showed himself really well in preseason. He would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures but that goes to someone else."

Following the October international break, Liverpool have matches against Chelsea, RB Leipzig and Arsenal, before facing Brighton and Hove Albion in both the Premier League and League Cup, and then Bayer Leverkusen.

There is not such good news on the injury front for goalkeeper Alisson, who was forced off against Crystal Palace on Saturday with a hamstring problem. That issue is set to keep him out of action for around a month, meaning he could miss as many as seven matches for the Reds.
