How 16 Liverpool stars fared on international break including Darwin Nunez and Alexis Mac Allister

The second of three international breaks this side of Christmas is over and Liverpool fans can finally see Arne Slot and co. back in action this weekend.

Up to 19 first-team stars jetted off around the world to link up with their nations over the past 10 days and some of them have already made their way back to Merseyside following the conclusion of their training camps.

However, some will still be warming down from their final games and won't return until a little later than some of the rest, although everyone is expected to be back together in time for Liverpool's crunch Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

As domestic football finally prepares to return this weekend, Liverpool.com takes a look at how 16 first-team stars fared in the second round of international fixtures over the past few days.

    Dominik Szoboszlai

Having watched his side hold out for a credible point against the Netherlands on Friday, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai then took things to the next level for Hungary's clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.

The 23-year-old stepped up for his country when it mattered and scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory for the Magyars, helping them to record their first win of the Nations League campaign and all but secure their safety from relegation.

Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk

Having seen club and national team captain Virgil van Dijk dismissed in Friday's stalemate with Szobozlai's Hungary , it was up to Reds duo Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch to step up for the Netherlands when it took on Germany on Monday.

However, both could do little to prevent their hosts from claiming a 1-0 win, and found themselves both taken off before the full-time whistle at the Allianz Arena. The result means Netherlands would need a miracle to qualify for next year's finals.

    Ibrahima Konate

October's international break was a successful one for Ibrahima Konate , who started both of France's Nations League clashes with Israel and Belgium and helped them to two crucial victories to keep up their chances of reaching the 2025 finals.

Having played the full 90 minutes of Thursday's 4-1 defeat of Israel, the Liverpool center-back once again lined up alongside William Saliba in the heart of the defense for Monday's trip to Belgium, where he played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 victory .

    Wataru Endo

Playing the full 90 minutes of Japan's victory over Saudi Arabia last Thursday, Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo was a surprise omission from the Samurai Blue's clash with Australia on Monday.

As it happened, the 31-year-old was ruled out of the 1-1 draw with illness, and it remains to be seen just how long he could be sidelined for, making him a doubt for Liverpool's clash with Chelsea on Sunday .

    Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah

Young duo Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah played crucial roles in England Under-21s comeback victory over group leaders Ukraine in UEFA Euro Under-21 qualifying last week, yet it was only the latter who retained his starting spot for Tuesday's clash with Azerbaijan.

Quansah captained The Three Lions throughout the full 90 minutes of the 7-0 victory, while Morton featured off the bench for the final 20 minutes, as they claimed top spot in the group and secured their place in next summer's finals.

    Mohamed Salah

Having scored in Friday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier over Mauritania, Mohamed Salah would have been hoping for a repeat when Egypt traveled to the Northwest African nation for the return fixture on Tuesday.

However, the Liverpool star was nowhere to be seen when the matchday squad was announced, with it later revealed that he skipped the clash due to concerns over picking up an injury on Mauritania's artificial pitch . Nonetheless, Egypt won 1-0 and Salah returned to Liverpool in perfect condition.

    Diogo Jota

After finding himself benched for Cristiano Ronaldo yet again for Portugal when it took on Poland last week, Diogo Jota was finally rewarded with a starting spot when Roberto Martinez's side took on Scotland on Tuesday.

Unfortunately for the Liverpool forward, he could do little to help his nation across the line in its 0-0 stalemate at Hampden Park, picking up a booking and managing just 61 minutes of the Nations League contest before being replaced at left-wing.

    Andy Robertson and Ben Doak

Two players who would have been relatively happy with Portugal's 0-0 draw with Scotland were Andy Robertson and Ben Doak , who found themselves lining up for the hosts once again as it went in search of its first points of its Nations League campaign.

Liverpool left-back Robertson captained his side throughout the 90 minutes, playing a key part in Scotland's clean sheet success, while Doak followed up his first start for the national team against Croatia last week with another in Monday's stalemate, managing 67 minutes of the contest.

    Conor Bradley

Perhaps the biggest winner from the international break was Liverpool youngster Conor Bradley , who became Northern Ireland's youngest captain for two decades after taking the armband for the Nations League clashes with Belarus and Bulgaria.

After helping his side keep a clean sheet in Saturday's 0-0 draw with the former, the 21-year-old then did the same once more as he led Michael O'Neills men to a 5-0 rout at home to the latter on Tuesday, featuring for the full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland took spot spot in its group.

    Luis Diaz

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz rediscovered his best form for Colombia on Tuesday to help his side to a 4-0 victory over Chile in World Cup qualifying, having failed to impress in the shock 1-0 defeat to Bolivia in the previous fixture.

Nonetheless, Diaz retained his place in the starting XI as expected and grabbed Colombia's second goal of the match with a 57th-minute strike, before coming off with 15 minutes left to play ahead of a crucial tie for Liverpool against Chelsea this weekend.

    Darwin Nunez

The second of Liverpool's South America trio to feature on Tuesday, Darwin Nunez was named in Uruguay's starting lineup for a second game running when it took on Ecuador in its latest 2026 World Cup qualifier.

However, the misfiring forward failed to find the back of the net once more, with Uruguay held to yet another 0-0 draw - it's third in four qualifying games - to end the international break with not a single goal to its name.

    Alexis Mac Allister

Left out as a precaution for Argentina's disappointing 1-1 draw with Venezuela in South American World Cup qualifying last Thursday, Alexis Mac Allister was reinstated to the lineup for Tuesday's clash with Bolivia.

The Liverpool midfielder had been nursing a minor injury that saw him withdrawn at half-time of last weekend's 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, yet made a full recovery in time to start from the off in yesterday's 6-0 romp, managing a respectable 66 minutes before being taken off.
