Mark Lawrenson explains why he's not overly impressed by Arne Slot start at Liverpool

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has urged caution when it comes to assessing Arne Slot's tenure at Anfield , reiterating the exact same message that the Reds boss himself has issued plenty of times.

Slot has been careful not to get carried away despite winning nine out of his 10 matches so far on Merseyside, pointing to a relatively straightforward fixture list. "If you judge a team on a week, that isn't fair, so you judge us after this spell of games, then we will know better how we act and perform," the Dutchman said earlier today in a press conference.

"If we play tough Champions League and Premier League games, that is normal. We've seen that. The only ones who showed they can do both Premier League and Champions League in the last two seasons is City and Arsenal. The best way to judge us is in four weeks."

  • "I think Arne Slot has had an easy ride at Liverpool so far with the fixtures that they’ve had," Lawrenson told Paddy Power . "The next four fixtures will give us a good idea of where the team are at.

"After 10 games in the Premier League, I feel like that is a good chance to see where teams will finish come the end of the season. Maybe not with the teams towards the bottom as that looks like there could be six to eight teams fighting relegation, but more relevant for the top four or five teams."

"I wouldn’t say Liverpool have had a ‘honeymoon’ period so far this season under Slot, they’ve just beaten the teams that they’ve come up against," Lawrenson told Instant Casinos this week. "I see them beating Chelsea, not so much Arsenal . They’ll make the top three, and along with Arsenal and Manchester City, I think they’ll be a fair margin ahead of the rest of the table."

Liverpool.com says: Slot hasn't played anyone hugely testing yet but the consistency has been impressive. Regardless, a big run of matches is now just around the corner. That won't be a caveat for much longer.
