Jamie Carragher names one Chelsea player who would boost Liverpool's title chances

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer would boost Liverpool's chances of Premier League success this season .

The Reds currently top the standings after six wins from seven games and are preparing to take on a Chelsea side on Sunday which has also enjoyed early success in the top flight this season.

Sitting four points and three places below Liverpool in the standings, the Blues have started well under new manager Enzo Maresca with four wins, two draws and 16 goals scored in their first seven fixtures of the new campaign.

However, without the goal contributions of one player in particular, the table could provide grim reading for Chelsea fans, who are already coming off the back of 12th and sixth-place finishes in the last two seasons, respectively.

Following a remarkable campaign in which he recorded 25 goals and 15 assists in 46 games in all competitions, Palmer has followed that up with six goals and five assists in nine games in 2024-25 under Maresca.

Carragher has since praised the former Leicester City boss for continuing to get the best from the 22-year-old, and has named him as the one player who would drastically boost Liverpool's and Slot's chances of silverware this season.

Writing for The Telegraph , he said: "(Enzo) Maresca deserves credit, especially in getting the best from Cole Palmer who is a game-changing footballer. (Mauricio) Pochettino had begun to unlock the immense talent.

"Chelsea’s sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley made a smart move appointing a coach who already knew Palmer from their Manchester City days. Palmer is thriving and any team with him has a chance.

"Coming into this season I initially thought it too soon for Chelsea to finish in the top four because the team spirit and connection with the fans was not there. Palmer is the biggest reason my view has changed. Now they can do it."

Carragher added: "If Palmer was at Liverpool, Arne Slot would be more likely to finish his debut season as a title winner. Palmer is that good, currently averaging more goal involvements per match than Stamford Bridge greats like Didier Drogba and Diego Costa."

Liverpool is currently stacked with forward options and already has its own superstar in Mohamed Salah , who scored the same amount of goals but grabbed one less assist than Palmer for Chelsea last season, while he also has the same number of goals and assists in the current campaign.

However, with Palmer primarily operating as an attacking midfielder for the Stamford Bridge outfit, playing in the No.10 role, there would certainly be a place for him in the current side - and it is simply mouth-watering to think of Liverpool's lineup with the England ace in it.
