Pep Guardiola makes new Man City future admission as Liverpool will be impacted by decision

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has refused to elaborate further on the big decision on his future that he faces before the end of the season. And Liverpool will be watching closely for the outcome.

After losing Jurgen Klopp at the end of the previous campaign, the Reds have seemingly got the transition to a new era right by bringing in Arne Slot . But Guardiola stepping away would be a big blow for the Etihad side after years of dominance under his guidance.

Guardiola refused to be drawn any further on whether or not Txiki Begiristain, his close associate at Manchester City who announced last week that he would be stepping down as director of football, would impact his own future. Guardiola's situation remains unclear with his existing contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.

  • "A part of me is leaving. A friend of mine," Guardiola said in his press conference earlier today ahead of facing Wolves this weekend. "One of the, I would say, the architects to create one of the best teams ever in Barcelona and now here.

"A friend of mine, I knew the decision for a long time ... personally, he will be missed, but for the confidence, for the trust, especially in the bad moments because he makes me incredibly balanced in my job. I am so energetic — when the going is bad, I want to destroy everything, and all the time he said: 'See you tomorrow, take a coffee'."

Guardiola told the Italian chat show Che Tempo Che Fa that "anything can happen" regarding his future recently. And he refused to expand further on those thoughts ahead of this weekend.

"I have to decide. I have not taken a decision, when I do I will inform you," he said, via ESPN . "There is no news, I have nothing to add. My concern only is for Wolves."

Asked if Manchester City had given him a deadline to make a decision, Guardiola added: "The club have never, ever told me." But he did admit: "Of course, I'm pretty sure the club have options when Pep will leave. Sooner or later, it will happen, and they have to prepare.

"It will not be a surprise. I want to be really convinced it is the best for the club. I will not delay any action thinking it will be a problem for the club. They understand the problems I will have."

Liverpool.com says: It seems inevitable that there will be a drop-off of some sort when Guardiola leaves Manchester City. Even if it is only by a point or two, that could make a big impact in the Premier League title race. Both Liverpool and Arsenal will be watching closely to see what happens next.
