Mac Allister was absent during part of the team session as he continues his recovery from an adductor issue that saw him substituted at half-time in the victory over Crystal Palace prior to the international break. While he was cleared to play for Argentina as the World Cup champions defeated Bolivia 6-0, the midfielder continued to rehab his injury and fully recover.
Mac Allister instead participated in a gym session, but he appeared to signal his involvement in the upcoming clash against the Blues with a suggestive post to his Instagram Stories. The image showed Mac Allister in Liverpool gear while advertising the game against Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Tsimikas missed Greece's last-gasp win over England in the Nations League due to illness before emerging as a late substitute against Ireland. He also did not participate in Friday's training session.
With Tsimikas out, Andy Robertson is tipped to reclaim his spot in Liverpool's dominant defense, which boasts the Premier League's best defensive record with only two goals conceded in seven matches. Arne Slot addressed his squad’s fitness as he told reporters: “Now we've got quite some issues from players coming back from the national teams, and we can only judge that perfectly today because today is the first time that they are all in, and the first time that they are all training together again. So, let's see after the session where everybody is.”
He added: “Macca missed one game [for Argentina], he played the second one. Kostas missed out in the first game against England so I can name them all but we've got a few issues going on and let's wait and see where we are after today. [Wataru] Endo as well [he] was also sick.”
Meanwhile, summer signing Federico Chiesa was absent from the session as he continues his recovery. The Italian did not feature against Palace or in the Champions League win over Bologna on October 2.
The Reds have several injury headaches. Harvey Elliott returned to light training having picked up a foot fracture during the international break last month, while goalkeeper Alisson is due to be sidelined until after the November international break with a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian’s injury opens the door for Caoimhin Kelleher to replace Alisson in the next few weeks. Kelleher was not on the bench for the Palace clash, but made two appearances for Ireland during the international break - and he is expected to represent Liverpool against Chelsea on Sunday.
