Supercomputer makes fresh Premier League final table prediction after Liverpool result

A supercomputer has predicted that the Premier League will be won by just a single point following victories for Manchester City and Liverpool on Sunday.

The reigning champions overcame bottom side Wolves with a dramatic last-gasp winner at Molineux before the Reds won by the same 2-1 scoreline against Chelsea just hours later at Anfield.

The result ensured both sides remained at the top of the Premier League following the latest round of fixtures, with Liverpool snatching top spot by a singular point after just eight games of the season.

However, despite Arne Slot's near-perfect start to life on Merseyside, a supercomputer still doesn't predict the Dutchman to be lifting the famous trophy come the end of the season. In fact, Liverpool doesn't even make it into the top two on the list.

According to the latest Premier League supercomputer courtesy of CSDB.gg , Man City will win the title by just a singular point ahead of Arsenal , ensuring the top two will remain the same for a third season in a row.

Somehow, Liverpool is still predicted to finish as low as third, ending the season on 88 points and falling four short of finishing level with Pep Guardiola's outfit. However, it at least proves the Reds will remain in the title race right until the very end.

That's because the supercomputer predicts that Chelsea will finish a whopping 15 points below them in fourth-place, further highlighting the gap between the three title challengers and the rest of the Premier League.

But with Liverpool making such a dominant start to the 2024-25 campaign by winning every single game bar one across all competitions, it's natural for Reds fans to wonder exactly how and why the supercomputer doesn't predict them to win the title.

Perhaps it's because Slot's side are yet to face any real challenges thus far, with Sunday's victory over Chelsea the first one to come up this season. This is largely true, given Liverpool is yet to face Man City or Arsenal - who already came up against each other last month.

However, a victory away to the Gunners on Sunday could finally see Liverpool finish top of the Premier League table by the supercomputer, with it appearing as though results against the top sides are likely to determine the eventual outcome at the top.

Elsewhere in the league, Tottenham, Newcastle and Brighton have been predicted to take the remaining European places in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, leaving Aston Villa, Brentford and Manchester United to prop up the top half of the table.

Below them, Bournemouth isn't far behind, while Fulham, Nottingham Forest and West Ham finish comfortably in mid-table in 12th, 13th and 14th-place.

Everton is predicted to finish a comfortable 12 points ahead of the relegation zone in 15th-place, swiftly followed by Crystal Palace and Leicester, leaving Wolves, Ipswich and Southampton in the bottom three and heading for the Championship.
