Liverpool is poised to don Adidas kits next season, following a deal worth over $75m-a-year (£60m) with the German sports manufacturing giant..

The Reds will sport Adidas gear as part of a multi-year agreement - setting a new record for the club - as their Nike contract concludes this summer. It's been 13 years since Liverpool last wore Adidas kits, having had stints with Warrior, New Balance and Nike.

While the duration of the deal remains undisclosed, it is expected to be long term. Both Nike and Puma were eager to secure deals with the club. However, it's Adidas who have bagged another major Premier League football brand.

  • Manchester United reportedly extended their partnership with the sports brand giant last year for another decade in a contract valued at $1.2bn (£900m).

Their new deal kicks off next year with a $20m (£15m) increase on their previous contract, although they face financial penalties if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Whether such clauses are included in Liverpool's deal is yet to be known. Liverpool's existing deal with Nike was approximately $40m-a-year (£30m) as a base figure but with certain percentages included on sales which routinely took it to around $65m (£50m)

The Reds switched to the US sports giant in 2020 - the summer they clinched the Premier League title - after the termination of their New Balance contract. Adidas currently produces kits for United, Arsenal, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Nike's other Premier League partnerships include Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion. The departure of Liverpool from their portfolio will be a significant setback for Nike, while it represents a major win for Adidas, who are on the hunt for high-profile signings after losing the German national team kits to the American brand.
