Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo believes his side took a positive step in the Premier League by drawing with Arsenal this weekend — as he was also asked about his relationship with fellow left winger Luis Diaz .

After Gakpo was handed a go from the off against Chelsea and RB Leipzig, it was Diaz who came into the starting XI at the Emirates Stadium before the pair swapped places just after the hour mark. "I think if you come here, good opponent, at the end, it is a good point," Gakpo told Liverpool.com and other reporters at the Emirates Stadium. "Obviously, you want to win, but I think it is a good point.

"We have a lot of confidence in ourselves and the team. Obviously, until the game is over, it is not over, so we fought hard second half to come back twice. If you look at the game, it was a well-deserved point."

Both Gakpo and Diaz have made good starts to the new Liverpool era under Arne Slot . "Everybody knows how good Lucho is as well," Gakpo said. "We are just playing our best with the games we have got and there is nothing between us.

"We are just enjoying every time we are playing. It is good for us. We always have to be on point, and we have to be sharp, so that is what we try to be, to help the team as much as possible."

Last season, Liverpool lost 3-1 in the same stadium with Ibrahima Konate being sent off. In another four-goal game this time around, the points were shared, meaning Liverpool remains four points ahead of Arsenal and one behind Manchester City .

"Every season is a different one. When we came here, we knew obviously that we lost last season," Gakpo said. "We are not in the same place now as we were back then, so I think we have a lot of confidence from this season alone.

"We have to keep this and show what we are good at and get more points. If we have confidence, even if we are behind, we know the chances will come. It comes from the approach, from the manager, from the results we had in the last games — everything together, we have enough confidence to act like we act now.

"We are compact and then we try to come very fast. We try to take a lot of chances and we are very dangerous. We are very resilient. We are fighting for each other. Like I said before, the game is not over until it's over and we kept believing in ourselves."
