Staying cool to start the workweek
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We’re in a bit of a strange place starting the workweek. Where we’d usually see temperatures in the low to mid 90s, we’ve got a stalled boundary to our north, dropping plenty of rain (especially in the afternoon) which is helping to keep our temperatures lower than usual. While this is a rarity for July, it’s not unfeasible.
Summer art class reception held at the museum
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Sunday the summer youth classes of Meridian museum of art held a reception. In the museum the students of all the art classes had their work displayed. From ages 6-17, each student had a masterpiece of work. Students of ages 6-12 did pottery, drawings and paintings while students of 13-17 did paintings and portfolio preparation.

Mass shooting in West Philadelphia leaves 3 killed, 6 injured
Three people were killed and six others were hurt during an overnight shooting at a large gathering in West Philadelphia on Sunday, per police. NBC Philadelphia reported that officers with the Philadelphia Police Department responded to a block party at 1200 N. Alden Street following a report of a shooting around 2 a.m. Over 100 people were in attendance as the party was underway when gunshots rang out. The department said in a statement: “Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Preliminary information indicates an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties resulting in a nonuple shooting and triple homicide.” It is not clear at this time what occurred ahead of the shooting.

Greensboro woman dead after wreck in Tuscaloosa
A 42-year-old woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Tuscaloosa Monday morning. Police say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on July 22, 2024 in the 4500 block of 45th Street East near Hargrove Road, when Tiffany Sheree Jones of Greensboro was traveling north on Hargrove Road East in a 2006 Ford Explorer that left the roadway and struck a tree in the front yard of a home.
Tuscaloosa Leaders Arrive in Mobile for Annual Benchmarking Trip
Leaders from west Alabama traveled south this weekend and are in Mobile for an annual trip designed to bring good ideas from other cities back to the Tuscaloosa area. The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama has taken these Benchmarking trips since 2017 and have learned from leaders in Greenville, Lexington, Chattanooga, Asheville and Raleigh.
40 days until Alabama football kicks off the 2024 season
In 40 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary Nick Saban as head coach in Tuscaloosa. Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Mark Porter and Grace Gosline claimed top honors in the 16th annual Twilight 5K Saturday evening on the University of Alabama-Huntsville campus. Porter, of Colorado Springs, Col., won the race in 17:15 with a pace of 5:34 per mile.
