    These five Pinckney students earned national honors

    PINCKNEY — Five students at Pinckney Community High School recently received academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Program.

    College Board is a nonprofit membership organization that helps millions of students each year navigate the path from high school to college and career, according to its website . The program honors thousands of students that belong to underrepresented groups for their strong academic performance.

    Pinckney students Sam Baghdadchi, Raphaella Gonzalez, Kyle Osborne, Anastasios Prokos and Alexis Rosevear-Sergent recently earned honors.

    It was the first year of the new National First-Generation Recognition Program Award, which joins the National African American Recognition Program Award, National Hispanic Recognition Program Award, National Indigenous Recognition Program Award and National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program Award.

    If a student's parent(s) don't have a bachelor's degree, they qualify as a first-generation student, according to College Board. More than 35,000 students nationwide received the inaugural First-Generation Recognition Program Award.

    Eligible students must meet the following criteria to qualify for awards:

    • Earn a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
    • Earn PSAT assessment scores within the top 10% in each state for each award program OR earn a score of 3 or more on two AP Exams by the end of tenth grade.
    • Attend school in a rural area or small town OR identify as African-American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino, Indigenous/Native American OR be a first-generation college student.

    “We’re thrilled to celebrate our students and recognize them for the great work they’ve been doing,” said Julia McBride, principal of Pinckney Community High School. “There’s so much that makes our students unique, and this honor reinforces their individuality and achievements as assets for their future.”
