Cat yoga and crafts? This Fowlerville rescue is working on a feline-friendly event space

FOWLERVILLE — Interested in hosting an event with cats? That'll soon be an option at the Cat Connection Rescue in Fowlerville.

Rescue President Christy Stecker is creating space for 30-40 people for internal and special events on Grand River Avenue in Fowlerville. She hopes to have the area completed by mid-October, with at least one weekly cat adoption event that's open to the public.

The space could also be used for events like cat yoga, cats and crafts, and fundraisers, with the rescue providing furry friends from local foster homes.

“There's a lot we could do with the space,” Stecker said.

While state law prevents food from being served around the cats, events with food elements could be organized with refreshments in a separate room.

Stecker opened Cat Connection in January 2023 as a home-based option for rescue and foster cats. It's not a shelter, and doesn't house cats overnight or for long periods of time. The new space will serve as an organization point for adopters/adoptees and possible foster parents.

Stecker would love to attract a local pet-based business to rent space in the building, and perhaps serve as a partner for promoting cat adoption, fostering and overall wellness.

“We really could use more cat foster homes in this area,” Stecker said.

To address potential security issues, Cat Connection has made a few investments on the property, including the addition of a double door system for furry visitors.

“It’s a great community," Stecker said. "We like having our base here in Fowlerville.”
