Pinckney repeated as Southeastern Conference White Division boys cross country champion, winning for the third time in four years Thursday at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter.

The Pirates scored 45 points to edge runner-up Chelsea by two points in the six-team meet. Pinckney won all three SEC White jamborees this season.

“We had some good and some bad,” Pinckney coach Jim Wicker said. “We had one of our top runners get bad back spasms. He didn’t run up to par, but we had some younger guys, inexperienced guys step up and fill the void for us and run very well. Wyatt Larson ran a personal record today. Cole and Zach were front-runners like they have been all year and ran well.”

Pinckney put its five scoring runners in the top 17.

Sophomore Cole McCraw was second in 16 minutes, 38.75 seconds and senior Zach Newman was third in 16:48.22 the lead the Pirates. Adrian junior Moises Salazar won in 15:57.32.

Next up for Pinckney is the Division 2 regional Oct. 26 at Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg.

“We’re really confident going into regionals,” Wicker said. “We’ll definitely get out of it, barring some catastrophe. As usual, we’re hoping to win it. We’re trying to win a fifth straight regional.”

In the girls meet, Pinckney sophomore Jaelyn Ray took first place with a time of 18:40.58. Defending champion Sophy Skeels of Adrian was second in 18:58.44.

Madalynn Karsies was fourth (19:42.81), Eastynn Charder 11th (21:25.42), Brooklyn Reason 15th (21:51.18) and Delaney Mays 19th (21:51.84) for the Pirates, who were second with 50 points. Adrian won with 36.
