    Charyl Stockwell volleyball ends slump with win over rival Livingston Christian

    After going 1-10 in its previous 11 volleyball matches, playing mostly larger schools at invitationals, Charyl Stockwell Academy got back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over rival Livingston Christian.

    The Sentinels lost the first game, 25-23, before reeling off 25-16, 25-18 and 25-16 victories.

    Julianne Stuckey had nine kills and five aces, Krista Lanning had 21 assists, Quinn Marshall had seven kills and freshman Lacey Mathews had five kills for Stockwell.

    The Sentinels brought up four freshmen who made their varsity debuts.

    Stockwell (12-16-1) swept its season series with Livingston Christian, winning 3-0 on Sept. 14.

    Brighton 3, Livonia Stevenson 1

    Brighton won 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.

    Cynthia Ockerman had 18 kills, four aces and four blocks for Brighton (19-8).

    Vivian Jones had 11 kills and service runs of 12 and eight points. Ruby Pennala had 32 digs.

    Brighton, Hartland and Howell will compete in the KLAA tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial.

    Howell 3, Dearborn Fordson 0

    Howell won 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.

    Rory O'Connell had 13 kills, Keira Todd had nine kills, Sophia Mays had 30 assists and Peyton Smith had 16 digs for Howell.
