LIVINGSTON, NJ — Residents of Livingston can now quickly and easily report potholes, property maintenance issues, drainage concerns, environmental issues, field and park maintenance, storm drain maintenance concerns and more with the township’s newly installed “GovAlert” system, a mobile application downloadable on Google Play or the Apple Store or available directly through the township’s website.
Whether using the township website or the GovAlert mobile app, a series of drop-down options make the process simple for all users, who will receive an email confirmation that the request was received and routed to the appropriate department.
The user will also receive a notification if the request has already been made by another user and will continue to receive follow-up emails when the issue is addressed. Additionally, the system maintains a complete list of reports from throughout the township and provides an easy way for both users and township officials to track the progress of each request.
“This is a very interactive program for everyone to use,” said Livingston Assistant Township Manager Adam Loehner, who recently shared an overview of the system with members of the Livingston Township Council. “The nice part about this is supervisors of every department will have kind of a global view where they can look at all the concerns that come in, and they can address any situations or things that may not be getting done or addressed fast enough…Everything is all mapped out on the back end.”
As a demonstration, Loehner input a sidewalk complaint from the township into the system using the “property maintenance” option from the drop-down menu.
He explained that this is a location-based program, meaning that the mobile application will be able to pinpoint the user’s exact location, or the user can manually input another location.
When prompted for a description of the sample concern, Loehner indicated that the issue is causing “a tripping hazard in front of the building where benches were previously located.” The user will also be prompted for photos or other related documents if available, he demonstrated.
Although a name and phone number is appreciated with the submission, Loehner stated that the only requirement for reporting a concern is an email address.
Once the concern is submitted and routed to the appropriate department, the user should receive a response stating, "Thank you! Your submission has been received!" along with a reference number for the department that the concern will be relayed to, such as the public works department.
To start using this program, navigate to Google Play or the Apple Store and download the GovAlert App. Once downloaded, residents can report a concern either at their current location or search for a different address.
To use the online system to report a concern or request a service, visit the township website at livingstonnj.org and click the “GovAlert Report a Concern” icon newly located on the homepage in the white bar located just below the main photo, as seen in the photos above.
The Report a Concern module is also accessible in the bottom righthand corner of every website page under “Site Links” and by typing livingstonnj.org/ReportAConcern on any browser.
