Autopsy may help identify body found in aftermath of South Carolina house fire
AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The Aiken County coroner and other agencies still have unanswered questions after crews recovered a body from a burning home. Coroner Darryl Ables said the fire happened around 7:15 p.m. on Friday at a home in the 500 block of John Nunn Highway near Salley. He said law enforcement and fire personnel responded to the home and extinguished the fire. Afterward, crews found a male body inside the house.
Chapin's water deemed safe after July 4th main break prompts boil advisory
CHAPIN, S.C. — Authorities have deemed water in the Chapin area safe to drink once more after a July 4 water main break prompted a boil advisory. A spokesperson for Chapin said water customers on the Amicks Ferry Water System in Lexington County no longer need to boil their water after bacteria testing found it was clean.
Subtext to Develop 697-Bed Community Near University of South Carolina
Columbia, S.C. — Subtext has acquired a 3.84-acre development site for the construction of VERVE Columbia, a 697-bed student housing development. The property is located at 450 Blossom St., two blocks from the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia. Site work is underway with construction on the 412,959-square-foot development expected for completion in fall 2026. The community will offer 233 units in a mix of studio, one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom configurations. Shared amenities will include an outdoor sports court; game lounge; content creation studio; study pods, open study areas and private conference rooms; a resort-style swimming pool courtyard with cabanas and grilling stations; and a fitness center with a sauna, meditation rooms and a yoga studio. The development team for the project includes Dynamik Design, Mary Cook Associates, W. M. Jordan Co., Davis & Floyd and CIBC.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A cat in the Midlands is starting to feel better Sunday, after it was found with its eyes sealed shut Thursday. Columbia’s Veterinary Emergency Trauma and Specialty Center (CVETS) has been nursing the cat, whom they named Ernie, back to health, after they received her with a glue-like substance on her face and body.
