'Pride or die:' Queer Northshore champions LGBTQ+ support in rural Louisiana
Mel Manuel and Jeremy JF Thompson struggled to meet other LGBTQ+ folks when they moved to Covington three years ago. Having previously lived in New Orleans, Manuel and Thompson, who both use they/them pronouns, felt out of place in a less urban and more conservative region. Manuel, 40, and Thompson, 43, decided to create their own LGBTQ+ safe space. Two and a half years ago, the best friends co-founded Queer Northshore, a nonprofit based in St. Tammany Parish, to promote LGBTQ+ visibility, community and acceptance in Louisiana’s northshore region.

Lafayette, Lake Charles men arrested in marijuana bust
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPLC) - The Lafayette Police Department made two arrests after recovering 113 pounds of marijuana.
