LSU has been laying the groundwork for a potential flip from new SEC rival Texas, and it will find out if its efforts were successful on Friday. Brandon Brown, a four-star 2025 defensive lineman from Melbourne, Florida, who is committed to the Longhorns, announced that he will shut down his recruitment and make a final decision at 2 p.m. CT. Brown is set to choose between an all-SEC final four of Texas, LSU, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Beloved South Lafourche Resident Norma Pitre Lafont Celebrates 100th Birthday
Lifelong South Lafourche resident Norma Pitre Lafont recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Norma Lafont was born on July 1, 1924, to Thomas and Marcess Pitre, and she had five siblings. Born during the depression era, she learned to waste nothing and to stretch everything. She attended Golden Meadow High School and married the love of her life, Henry Lafont Sr., when they were teenagers. The couple had two children, Henry Lafont Jr. and Deanna Lafont. The family has grown, and Norma now has four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Norma and Henry Sr. were married for 72 years until his passing in 2012.

Louisiana State Fiddle Championship to be held July 20 in Natchitoches
The Louisiana State Fiddle Championship will be held on July 20, 2024, in conjunction with the 44th annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival. The Fiddle Championship will be held at 1 p.m. in the Magale Recital Hall located at 175 Sam Sibley Drive on the Northwestern State University campus. Fiddlers may compete in the championship or non-championship, as well as in the twin fiddle category. Registration is at noon in the first-floor foyer outside the Magale Recital Hall. The Fiddle Championship winner will perform on the main stage in Prather Coliseum at 5 p.m.
