Discrimination Lawsuit Against N.Y. City Official Can't Be Totally Sealed at Plaintiff's Behest
From Doe v. City of New York, decided today by Judge Gregory Woods (S.D.N.Y.):. One distinguishing facet of the American legal system is its commitment to public access to the trial process. This legacy of "open justice" is as old as America itself. The plaintiff in this action asks that the Court deviate from that legacy and to permit her to litigate her case under seal in complete secrecy. Because the plaintiff has not overcome the strong presumption to public access that attaches to judicial documents—including her complaint and the existence of the case itself—her motion to seal the case is DENIED….
Motorcyclist killed in Ontario County crash
Gorham, N.Y. — The Ontario County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist overnight. Deputies responded to State Route 245 and County Road 18 in Gorham around 12:20 a.m. Friday for a report of a motorcycle crash and found Daniel Blauvelt, 36, of Rushville, dead at the scene.

The Greater Rochester YMCA Carlson Child Care Center to close in August
The Greater Rochester YMCA has announced the closure of the Carlson Child Care Center at the MetroCenter building. The YMCA cited the lack of long-term, committed partners to share the space as the reason for the decision. The building on E. Main Street will be listed for sale. The YMCA is working with families and the Child Care Center to find alternative care options for those in need.
