Historic Ship La Amistad Will Soon Dock in Kingston
KINGSTON – Hudson River Maritime Museum announced that it will host the Amistad Saturday, August 3-Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at their Kingston Waterfront campus. The 129-foot schooner is a replica of the 19th century ship, La Amistad, which became widely known for the 1839 uprising of enslaved captives from Sierra Leone who overthrew the crew and commandeered the ship into waters off the coast of New York. Tours of the ship and other public programming will be offered while they are anchored at the Kingston Waterfront. Tickets and more information can be found at www.hrmm.org/amistad.

Lou Barlow, the indie legend who plays bass for Dinosaur Jr. and who leads Sebadoh, started the Folk Implosion with his penpal John Davis in 1993. They released a handful of great records and scored an out-of-nowhere hit with 1995’s “Natural One,” their contribution to the Kids soundtrack, before Davis left the group in 2000. Barlow released one more album under the Folk Implosion name without Davis, but then he hung it up. In 2021, Barlow and Davis got back together to work on new music. They released their Feel It If You Feel It EP in 2022, and they followed it this year with their new album Walk Thru Me. Last night, they played their first show back together.

Un Homme de Théâtre - A Man of the Theatre: Lou Trapani
Lou Trapani, stalwart of the Center of Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, passed away at the age of 76 at his home in Tivoli on July 12. He was surrounded by his partner Emily DePew, his sister Catherine and several friends. Diagnosed with cancer in mid-April, Lou fought hard, and close friends remarked to the Pilot about the stunningly short battle he fought. Trapani was known throughout the Hudson Valley as a talented actor, writer, producer, and director. But he will forever be known best for mentoring and nurturing his fellow thespians of the Rhinebeck community as the Artistic and Managing Director at the CENTER for over 25 years.
