Five hundred years between major earthquakes puts a lot of time before the next big one. But many experts say the region is still largely unprepared for even moderate shaking. Many parts of Alaska—which experiences large quakes more frequently—put in strict building codes after an earthquake devastated the state in 1964. Those building codes are thought to be why Anchorage survived a 7.0 earthquake in 2018 with only minimal damage and no deaths.

Corina Garcia pushes mother during argument
28-year-old Corina Garcia was involved in a domestic altercation with her mother, Jessica Reeves, at their Power Street residence on June 22nd. When officers arrived, they spoke with Reeves, who stated that while she and Garcia were arguing, Garcia pushed her to the ground. Reeves had abrasions on her arm caused by the fall that officers observed was consistent with her statement of being pushed. Garcia was not at the residence when officers arrived, and officers were unable to contact her, so a warrant was issued. Garcia was later found and taken into custody for domestic assault on July 2nd.
Nashville Detective Wounded, Murder Suspect Shot as Arrest Attempt Erupts into Gunfire in Madison
Source: Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee. A confrontation in a Madison apartment complex parking lot escalated to gunfire yesterday as a Nashville detective was wounded while serving a first-degree murder indictment, according to a report by the Nashville Police Department. Detective Carlos Diaz, a recent transfer from the New York Police Department, sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his leg when homicide suspect Miqueal Williams resisted arrest and opened fire. Williams, wanted for the murder of Samuel Edwards Jr. in March, was also shot in the hip during the altercation and both he and Diaz are being treated at Skyline Medical Center.

The Tennessee Titans spent the early portion of the offseason linked to a potential move for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. The reasons why were fairly straightforward. Higgins, a Oak Ridge native and former "Mr. Football" award winner in the state of Tennessee, was scheduled to reach free agency with a ton of built-in chemistry with new Titans head coach Brian Callahan.
Feud between neighbors ends in dog being shot, police say

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A woman and two children were severely injured in a single vehicle crash on July 15. Hopkinsville EMS responded to the wreck Monday evening in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Vaughns Grove – Little River Road.
