Camping is back in Rock Island County this weekend!

The Rock Island County Forest Preserve District is welcoming campers to Loud Thunder Forest Preserve campgrounds, 19408 Loud Thunder Road in Illinois City, starting on April 5. The campgrounds have 61 campsites for RV campers and tent campers can stay in one of 80 primitive sites. Click here for information on seasonal boat rentals, hiking trails, fishing docks, picnic shelters and playgrounds.

The campground at Illiniwek Forest Preserve campground will not open this weekend as planned, due to construction on the grounds. The opening will be delayed until further notice. Trails at Illiniwek are closed, due to wet conditions on the trails. Staff will post up-to-date information on the new opening date on the Illiniwek Facebook page.

Reservations can be made for the rest of the year for any of the five campgrounds by visiting the Rock Island County Forest Preserve website .
