After a seventh straight 1A playoff appearance last season the Fulton Steamers are full steam ahead on a brand new campaign with a veteran roster of eleven seniors.

“As a group, we’ve been working hard the last four years,” senior Dom Kramer said. “Everyone has a strong connection.”

“It motivates a lot of people,” senior Josiah Heald said. “Everyone looks up to the seniors especially Dom at quarterback and the younger guys relying on us.”

“We haven’t had to coach any of the little things. They’ve taken care of that,” head coach Patrick Lower said. “It makes things a lot smoother for them to take care of things we had to do last year with more of a younger group out there. The older guys are taken control so you hope they take all that information and pass it down to the younger ones for next year.”

One of those leaders. at the quarterback position, Dom Cramer. Whose become more comfortable in the offense in year two as a starter new starting quarterback.

“Last year I was a little scared and nervous being the new starting quarterback,” Kramer said. “This year I’m reading the defense more and working hard to learn everything.”

“Over the last year, I’ve seen him grow a lot, Heald said. “He’s a really good guy and can throw it. We appreciate everything he does.”

“Much more relaxed than he was last season. As a junior playing varsity and a position he didn’t know and a spot where you have to know everything, he had some really good moments and some where you can tell he’s a first year starter,” Lower said. “Since the summer you can just tell he’s more at ease and confident in his abilities.”

The experience gets rid of growing pains and builds towards more success this season.

“Our team really matured throughout the year,” Lower said. “It took a couple weeks for us to get familiar with what they can do and it took a couple weeks for them to get familiar with us as coaches so you know hopefully this year we don’t have those couple weeks of time to kind of adjust we can just kind of get going and that’s what I’ve seen so far in practice and we’ve just kind of picked up where we left off.”

The Steamers open up at home against Forreston August 30th.
