Girls with an interest in flying can learn more about the variety of available careers at an annual event at the Quad Cities International Airport, 3200 69 th Avenue (Cargo) in Moline.

The airport, John Deere Aviation and Elliott Aviation, are hosting the fourth annual Girls in Aviation Day – A Women in Aviation International (WAI) Event on Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Girls ages 5 years and older can attend a day of activities and exploration and talk about educational and career paths with women representing a wide range of careers in aviation. Groups that will be at the event include:

    • Elliott Aviation,
    • John Deere Aviation,
    • Revv Aviation,
    • ABLEd,
    • Quad Cities International Airport,
    • Quad Cities International Airport Public Safety,
    • QCIA Airport Services LLC,
    • Civil Air Patrol – Davenport,
    • Iowa State University,
    • Iowa Lakes Community College,
    • University of Dubuque,
    • Department of Homeland Security,
    • Envoy Air: An American Airlines Group Company,
    • UNIFI Aviation, EAA,
    • Quad Cities Aero,
    • National Weather Service – Quad Cities,
    • CMT,

The event is a global celebration that introduces girls to all the careers possible in STEM and aviation. Less than 10% of pilots, maintenance technicians and airline executives are women, according to a 2019 WAI workforce report. Commercial air travel is seeing staffing shortages like never before, meaning diversity is crucial to the industry.

Captain Susan Potter, the first woman to become an international captain with John Deere Aviation, will be the keynote speaker and will deliver her presentation starting at 12 p.m. Scan the QR code below to register.
