There’s been a change in the route for Saturday’s Fiesta Parade in Rock Falls, according to a news release from the city.

A NICOR gas main replacement project around 10th Street and Avenue A in Rock Falls means that the parade, scheduled for Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m., will begin on First Avenue at East Ninth Street this year. This is one block north of the usual starting route. The parade staging area will be on East Ninth Street and East 10th Street. Parade participants should contact parade organizers for directions.

Spectators will not be allowed near the street at the northeast corner of First Avenue and Ninth Street (O’Reilly Auto Parts) to allow larger parade entries enough space to make the turn from East Ninth Street onto the parade route. Barriers will be placed to keep spectators safe.

The parade starts at 1 p.m. First Avenue (IL Route 40) will be closed to all traffic from 10th Street in Rock Falls to the Rock River, beginning approximately 15 minutes before the start of the parade. Traffic control signs, police officers and public works personnel will manage the road closures and direct traffic around the parade route. Drivers are reminded not to drive around or move barricades.

The Avenue G bridge will stay open for traffic traveling north into Sterling. Westbound traffic on Dixon Avenue must detour south on Avenue D to East 11th Street. Drivers should be cautious driving near the parade route and staging areas and watch for parade participants and watchers.
