A news release from the City of Clinton says a pinched/worn electrical wire is to blame for a fire in the city late yesterday afternoon.

The Clinton Fire Department was called to the 300 block of Main Avenue on Sunday, September 22 at about 5:42 p.m. for a report of a structure fire with smoke coming from the roof. The department responded with 14 personnel in two ladder trucks, one engine, three ambulances and a command vehicle.

Firefighters investigated and found smoke on all three floors of the building. They found a fire above a laundry room that was spreading into the attic. All occupants on the third floor were evacuated and the fire was contained.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be a pinched/worn wire that was powering the clothes dryer exhaust motor. No injuries were reported.
