    Clinton County Sheriff: Child struck while boarding school bus

    A child was struck by a car while trying to board a school bus in Clinton County this morning, according to a news release from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

    Clinton County Communications received a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Highway 30 at 158th Avenue on Monday, September 23 at about 7:50 a.m. The location is about two miles west of Calamus.

    A preliminary investigation indicated that a school bus from the Calamus-Wheatland School district was stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 30 to pick up a student. A passenger car driving westbound struck a child in the westbound lane of the highway. The child was airlifted to the University of Iowa for treatment. There is no word on the child’s condition at this time.

    Wheatland Ambulance, Calamus Fire, Genesis Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, and Medforce air ambulance assisted at the scene. The accident is under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office
