Rock Island Police Department partners with SkillBridge to help service members transition to civilian careers

A program from the Department of Defense will help servicepeople leaving the military get experience with the Rock Island Police Department.

The department has recently been approved to be an official industry partner with the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program .

Every year, about 200,000 members of the U.S. Armed Forces leave active-duty service and reenter the civilian workforce. SkillBridge helps these former service members receive valuable work experience through a 16-week paid internship during their last few months of service. Those who want to start a new career after their service can work and learn from civilian industry partners as they begin transitioning back to civilian life.

“The Rock Island Police Department is proud to offer this opportunity to the men and women who have faithfully served our country in the armed forces,” says Chief Tim McCloud. “We value the dedication and sacrifice they have made to keep our country safe and look forward to applying that same commitment of service to our own ranks and for our community.”
