There’s nothing quite like having a great first day on a new job and the Moline Police Department’s newest K9 made a big impact on his first day.

K9 Wojtek (Voy-tek) started with the department on Monday, October 7 and didn’t waste any time getting to work. A post on the department’s Facebook page today reads, “K9 Wojtek was eager to get to work and a couple meth peddlers were apparently as excited to meet him. You know what they say, ‘Dreams don’t work unless you do,’ so they decided to try to transport methamphetamine into Moline. Trying to transport three pounds of methamphetamine into our community is one those high risk-low reward things teachers taught most of us in grade school.”

“This story isn’t all sad for them, these guys will get regale to all of their future cellmates about the time they were K9 Wojtek’s first big bust. They can tell their orange clothed buddies about how they sealed their meth into plastic bags, but that Ziploc freshness seal was no match for the Cedar Creek Kennel trained nose of K9 Wojtek.”

The post concludes “K9 Wojtek and K9 Riggs are working nonstop to stem the flow of drugs into our community. Great work K9 Wojtek, Officer Thornborough and the Detectives in the Special Investigations Group.”

The department said K9 Wojtek is a multipurpose officer in another post. “If you hide, Wojtek will find you. Want to transport illegal drugs through Moline? Wojtek will detect them. K9 Wojtek, though not a user of cannabis himself, does not mind if you smoke the reefer. Since cannabis is legal in the State of Illinois so K9 Wojtek is not trained to detect it. K9 Wojtek and Officer Thornborough will be assigned to afternoon patrol and K9 Wojtek will live with Officer Thornborough.”
