A man is in the Peoria County Jail after police in East Moline accused him of abusing a three-month-old baby, according to post on the East Moline Police Department’s Facebook page.

Officers began an investigation after a three-month-old baby was taken to St. Francis Medical Facility in Peoria in critical condition on October 3. The Illinois Department of Child & Family Services (DCFS) notified the East Moline Police Department about the situation as the injuries were suspected to be caused by abuse.

The incident occurred in the 4500 block of Seventh Street, at the Fox Pointe Apartments in East Moline. Following the report, detectives from the East Moline Police Department confirmed that the baby suffered serious, life-threatening injuries that were suspicious.

During the investigation, law enforcement identified the infant’s father, Damontinez D. Pierre, age 23, as the person responsible for the injuries. The Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant on October 8 for Pierre, charging him with aggravated battery of a child, a Class X Felony. Pierre was arrested by the Peoria Police Department on Wednesday, October 9. He will remain in custody until he can be extradited back to Rock Island County. Currently, the baby is no longer in critical condition but remains hospitalized.

Anyone with information about the incident contact the East Moline Police Department at (309) 752-1555. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at (309) 762-9500 or through the P3 Tips app.

I worked side by side trying to save an 18 month old who was shaken so hard, transferred to U of I and the brain stem was completely separated from the brain. The baby of course didn't make it. I was so horrified that it affected me for a long time. My grandson was the same age and all I could do when I got off work was go cuddle him to me and thank God that he was born into a family that adored him. There is too much of this happening and it breaks my heart. Yes, the dude went to prison. The mom was at work.

What a coward. A baby that can't defend themselves. He needs to go to prison
