Two more arrested in connection with 2015 Davenport assault

Two more men are being charged in connection with a 2015 assault that left another man in a chronic vegetative state until he died earlier this year, according to a news release from the Davenport Police Department.

The Davenport Police Department was called to the former Chorus Line Strip Club on N. Brady Street on October 15, 2015, just after midnight, regarding an assault. Officers found a man, later identified as Joshua Sutton Sr., in the club. Sutton was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals for emergency medical treatment of critical head injuries suffered during the assault, the release said.

In 2015, Kamden Shelton, then 24-years-old, Juan Shelton, then 31-years-old, and Trenton Shelton, then 30-years-old, were charged with willful injury-causing serious injury related to the assault. Sutton remained in a chronic vegetative state, requiring medical care in long-term healthcare facilities until he died on April 7, 2024. Davenport Police received autopsy results listing the manner of death as homicide.

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Kamden A. Shelton Sr., was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the assault. Juan Shelton and Trenton Shelton are in custody on unrelated charges. Warrants for second-degree murder have been issued for both men. The incident remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time
