‘We’re starting to click’: Hawkeyes finally put together two good halves of football

The Hawkeyes welcomed Washington to Big Ten football with complementary football done to perfection. Iowa was excellent in all three phases and put together their first complete game of the season. Jay Higgins says the secret sauce to the team’s success on the field was the crowd behind them.

“We’ve been on the road for the last month so just when you make a play the crowd reacts and we haven’t had those the last two games.” Higgins said.

“I think we did a great job just playing off each other,” Mason Richman said. “We’re starting to click more, and we’ve seen practically every look.”

“I’m pleased with the way the guys prepared, they came focused on things that were important,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said. “Certainly they showed up and competed the full sixty minutes. It wasn’t perfect but it was a good effort by everybody and to that point i thought we played good complementary football.”

“We knew going into halftime that this was our opportunity,” Cade McNamara said of finishing things in the 2nd half. “I think Coach Lester mentioned it that we took care of the first half, but let’s go out there and play a full game of football and I think we were able to do that today.”

Kaleb Johnson did it yet again with 3 touchdowns and 166 yards. The Hawkeyes improve to 4-2, while in the process notching Kirk Ferentz’s 200th win in the Big Ten.
