After a week one loss, Pleasant Valley football has rattled off six straight wins and now sits second in class 5A.

“Just using that as motivation to work harder and get better and better every week moving forward,” running back Elijah Rodney said. “The whole time we knew what we had so just working collectively together as a group. Working to each other’s skill sets and supporting each other has been the biggest reason for overcoming that first week.”

“We talk a lot about the things behind us can motivate us. You can’t go back and change that. Only learn from it,” head coach Rusty Van Wentzinga said. “You always learn from your mistakes and apply what you learn to the next test so I attribute the guys for doing that and continuing to take that in to our next week and next opponent.”

What have the Spartans learned? They have a pretty good offense led by quarterback Harrison Fierce and running back Elijah Rodney, who combined have rushed for 1,810 or the 2,231 total rushing yards this season.

“We’ve grown up together and actually a photo of us from pee-wee that popped up the other day,” Fierce said. “We’ve always we had that connection and only started playing quarterback three years ago so we haven’t had that running back quarterback duo but definitely the teammate duo.”

The connection we’ve built over the years is a big reason why were having success,” Rodney said. “We know each other going all the way back to the elementary days so building that connection over time and building up one another is a big part of it.”

P.V. takes the rushing attack on the road Friday night to Iowa City West.
