RIVERVIEW, Michigan – (LocalNewsGroup.com) — City of Riverview mourns the loss of a Priority Waste truck driver following an accident at the Riverview Land Preserve on Thursday afternoon.

According to official reports from the City of Riverview, a landfill accident resulted in the tragic death of a garbage truck driver at the Riverview Land Preserve, located at 20863 Grange Road, near King between Allen Road and Fort Street.

The details of the incident are currently being investigated, leading authorities to withhold any official statements at this time.

However, the City of Riverview expressed their condolences and offered their prayers to the grieving family of the deceased truck driver through a press release that stated: “A tragic accident occurred today at the Riverview Land Preserve involving a truck driver who was killed in his vehicle.

The circumstances are presently under investigation and we are not prepared to make any statements at this time. We do, however, extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of the truck driver.”

Eyewitnesses, including Tim, who captured the scene on a TikTok video, provided some insights into the incident. According to Tim’s account, the driver was attempting to dislodge a full trailer but unfortunately, the truck tipped over, detaching from the fifth wheel.

“I witnessed the accident and immediately pulled over. People were desperately trying to open the truck’s door, so I hurriedly checked my truck for any tools that could help pry it open,” Tim revealed. Nevertheless, authorities soon requested everyone to vacate the immediate vicinity of the accident.

The incident has left the community in deep sorrow, leading Tim to emphasize the importance of awareness and safety when utilizing landfill facilities. “It’s a tragic situation that brings attention to the risks garbage truck drivers face every day. We need to give them more space and prioritize safety. This type of accident could happen to anyone,” Tim remarked, expressing his concern.

The City of Riverview and relevant authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident. As the community grieves the loss of the dedicated garbage truck driver, it serves as a stark reminder of the inherent hazards associated with the waste management industry.

Damn. Sad. I never dump next to semi rolloff trailers while they're dumping. An uneven load, uneven ground, or strong wind...I can't count how many I've seen fall over in the last 35yrs. I'm actually surprised the operator at the landfill allowed them to dump so close.
