Rancho Cucamonga Fire District Charges Into The Future With Electric Fire Engine

    2024-01-18

Rancho Cucamonga, California — History is being made at the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District with the recent introduction of a state-of-the-art Rosenbauer RTX Electric Fire Engine, marking the district as the third in North America to acquire such advanced technology.

The zero-emission engine showcases the Fire District's strong commitment to building a sustainable and ecologically mindful community.

Embracing cutting-edge ingenuity, the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District proudly revealed that the electric fire engine would be stationed at the forthcoming Fire Station 178, strategically located on Town Center Dr. to the east of Haven Avenue, with its doors set to open in the spring of 2024.

This strategic move is well-aligned with the environmental and traffic considerations highlighted in the City's 2022 General Plan Update. A reduction in the Fire District’s carbon footprint and noise emissions is expected, which are crucial steps toward the city's ecological safeguarding.

The innovative Rosenbauer RTX boasts an electric drivetrain that operates quietly and efficiently during non-emergency runs, supported by an energy backup system for unwavering reliance in situations as demanding as extended fire-fighting operations and natural disasters.

The health and safety of the first responders are also a paramount concern addressed by this new acquisition. The clean cab concept of the Rosenbauer RTX ensures that firefighters store their turnout gear in exterior compartments, thus significantly minimizing their exposure to carcinogens. And it doesn’t stop there - the ergonomic and tactical design of the vehicle provides added benefits, including less physical burden on fire personnel and enhanced operational success. A notable feature is the engine’s adjustable height and 4-wheel drive, enhancing its responsiveness over the varied topography of the city.

The City's innovation-centric ethos is echoed in words of high commendation:

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our community and firefighters. We are proud to incorporate the Rosenbauer RTX into our fleet, as it aligns with our commitment to minimizing the exposure of toxic air contaminants and safeguarding our firefighters from harmful chemicals,” said Mike McCliman, City of Rancho Cucamonga Fire Chief.

Mayor Dennis Michael hailed the forward-thinking approach, adding, “One of our City Council’s core values is the relentless pursuit of improvement, a value shared by Rosenbauer. They have completely redesigned the fire engine from the ground up, ensuring our first responders have the resources and tools necessary to respond to emergency incidents while also reducing carbon emissions and improving environmental sustainability.”

Rosenbauer's involvement indicates a deep-seated partnership aimed at progress and ecological responsibility. “We are honored to continue our partnership with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District and provide them with the groundbreaking Rosenbauer RTX Electric Fire Engine. By adopting this cutting-edge technology, together we are not only enhancing operational capabilities but also contributing to the city's environmental goals. This marks another step in our shared commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability,” Tim Noeding, General Sales Manager at Velocity Fire Equipment Sales, the Rosenbauer Dealer for Southern California, Arizona, and Southern Nevada, affirmed.

With commitments to sustainability, health, and innovative efficiency, the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District is set to become a paragon of modern fire safety response in an increasingly environmentally-conscious world.
