LAPD Searching for Drivers in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Pacoima

    2024-01-18

PACOIMA, California -In a search for justice, detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division are making an urgent appeal to the public for assistance in tracking down the individuals responsible for a hit-and-run incident that tragically ended the life of a young man.

The fatal collision occurred late on the night of January 12, 2024, when an unidentified man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was struck by three separate vehicles on San Fernando Road and died as a result of his injuries.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a light-colored pickup truck was errantly traveling northbound on the opposite lanes of San Fernando Road. Near Montague Street, the truck collided with the pedestrian, who was crossing mid-block.

Afterward, as the man attempted to rise, a second vehicle, described as a light-colored full-size SUV, also heading northbound, ran into him. The impact propelled the man across the lanes, leaving him vulnerable to the third heartless blow by a dark-colored mid-size SUV going southbound.

Witnesses reported that all vehicles involved in the accident failed to stop to render aid and fled from the scene, defying legal obligations to assist and cooperate with law enforcement.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rushed to the emergency but pronounced the man dead upon their arrival. Efforts to formally identify the man and notify his family are underway, with details withheld until the next of kin are informed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Highlighting the seriousness of these incidents, the City Council has taken proactive steps to combat the hit-and-run epidemic. On April 15, 2015, an amendment to the Los Angeles Administrative Code led to the establishment of the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. Through this program, the city offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information that assists in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators, potentially leading to a conviction or a civil settlement.

The LAPD urges anyone with information about the vehicles or drivers involved in this tragic hit-and-run to come forward and contribute to bringing closure to this case.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division Officer Sison at (818) 644-8022 or Officer Freeman at (818) 644-8115. During non-business hours, or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org. Lastly, tipsters may also download the “P3 Tips” mobile application and select the L.A.
