The University of Alabama’s Alabama Small Business Development Center is expanding a program focused on getting rural business owners the advice, training and financial assistance they need to succeed. In 2020, a federal court ruled that Gavin's court-appointed lawyers were ineffective. Keith Edmund Gavin was put to death by the State of Alabama on July 18. Although he was convicted by a jury of his peers for fatally shooting William Clayton Jr, a delivery driver, during a robbery attempt in 1998, questions remained about Gavin’s representation during his trial. Gavin attempted a last resort handwritten appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to stay his execution, but it was rejected without comment nearly an hour before his execution.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... The Troy All-Stars represented Alabama at the Dixie Ozone Rookies (11U) World Series in Mississippi this past weekend. Troy went 2-2 at the World Series. They opened up the World Series with a 8-5 win over Livingston on July 18. Cole Cleveland led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, while Elliot Cochran went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Barrett Powell and Cochran pitched two innings each. Cochran struck out two and gave up two hits and two earned runs, while Powell struck out three and gave up no hits or earned runs.
Bill to rename Dothan post office passes U.S. House
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The post office in downtown Dothan could soon bear the name of a World War II veteran and longtime mail carrier. On Monday evening, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6162 by voice vote without any objection. That bill, which was introduced by Representative Barry Moore in November 2023 and was cosponsored by the other six representatives from the state of Alabama (Robert Aderholt, Jerry Carl, Gary Palmer, Mike Rogers, Terri Sewell and Dale Strong), would officially rename the post office at 379 North Oates Street in Dothan as the LaBruce ‘Bruce’ Tidwell Post Office.
