A man was found dead inside a residence during a structure fire in Lodi on Tuesday and a woman was taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

The Lodi Fire Department said firefighters responded at about 5 p.m. to a structure fire that was occurring at a one-story residence in the 2600 block of Magnolia Court.

At the scene, crews said they found heavy fire and smoke conditions and an older woman was immediately rescued from the residence and taken to San Joaquin General Hospital.

Crews said a man was also found in a back room of the house but was dead from his injuries. The identity of the man was not released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
