    Poynette volleyball takes second in Westfield invite

    The Poynette Pumas volleyball team took second place in the Westfield Invitational on Saturday, Sep. 28. Their only loss on the day came against Pittsville. The other opponents for the Pumas were Markesan, Royall and New Lisbon.

    Poynette defeated Markesan two sets to none in the first match of the day with scores of 25-12 and 26-24. Emma Yelk finished the match with six kills and 14 assists. Junior Addi Mackey recorded 26 digs against the conference opponent. On the defensive side of the ball, Avalyn Albrecht finished the match with four blocks. Kassidy McCaffery had two aces.

    The second match was the same outcome as match one, but with different scores. Poynette defeated Royall two sets to none with scores of 26-24 and 25-16. Ellsa Feller and McCaffery both recorded four kills each. Mackey had two aces and 18 digs against Royall. Yelk finished the match with 14 assists and three blocks. Junior Karly Rivette also had three blocks in the match.

    Poynette’s only loss came against Pittsville, who defeated the Pumas in both sets. The first match was close with a 25-18 score. Pittsville dominated the second match by a score of 25-9. Addi Mackey highlighted the match with 15 digs. Yelk had six assists and McCaffery recorded five kills in the Pumas loss.

    Kassidy McCaffery led the way in Poynette’s victory against New Lisbon. McCaffery finished the match with ten kills, 18 digs, a block and three aces. The Pumas defeated their opponent, 25-15, 25-12. Emma Yelk had 19 assists and a block recorded. Neiley Ripp also had a block in the team's win against New Lisbon. Senior Morgan Gunderson contributed with three aces. With the loss, New Lisbon placed in third at the Westfield Invite.

    The Pumas round out their season with all conference opponents. Their final game of the season is Tuesday, October 8 against Lakeside Lutheran.
