JC Breakfast Optimist Club Learned About Harmony Fest
On July 17, JC Breakfast Optimist Club’s member/guest speaker was Martine Chery- Hilaire. Martine is originally from Haiti and has lived in Junction City for 15 years having been petitioned by her mother to be able to come to the United States. After five years, Martine joined the Army and ended up at Fort Riley. Martine owns and operates the Chez Matou Green Machine Food Truck located on North Washington Street in Junction City.

Emporia man charged with attempted first-degree murder
An Emporia man has been formally charged with attempted murder after an alleged incident earlier this week. Justin Colby Barrett, age 34, was charged Wednesday with attempted first-degree murder and six other counts, including three counts of aggravated battery, and single counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated child endangerment and criminal threat.
Retiring Junction City Manager will be recognized
The public retirement reception for Junction City Manager Allen Dinkel is scheduled from 1:30 to 4;30 p.m. Wednesday at the Junction City Municipal Auditorium. Speaking to the city commission Tuesday night Dinkel said, "What makes this community so great for me as a city manager is I worked as a team with some great, important employees."

The Liberal Bee Jay defense committed four errors and allowed six unearned runs in an 8-5 loss to the Hays Larks at Brent Gould Field Tuesday night. Dr. Irabor brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. An American hero will roll back into Abilene for the Central Kansas Free Fair at the end of July. Kansas native Mark Nutsch now lives in Leavenworth and joined in on the KSAL Morning News with a look back at a group of US Army Green Berets he led in freeing Afghanistan from Taliban rule in 2001, after the 9-11 attacks. His unit spent months on horseback fighting alongside Uzbek cavalrymen to take down the Taliban.
One person dead after train, van crash near Kearney
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A man is dead after a van-train crash near Kearney on Thursday. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 12:30 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a van was traveling westbound on US Highway 30 east of Cherry Avenue just outside the Kearney city limits. The sheriff’s office said during that time, a Union Pacific train was backing up on a track that crosses the highway and collided with the van.
Fox found in Lincoln tests positive for rabies
A fox that recently tested positive for rabies is the first case of its kind in Lincoln. Lincoln Animal Control announced Thursday that the fox came into contact with somebody’s dog and was injured. Animal control was called to pick up the fox, which was showing signs of illness.
