CACHE COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said search and rescue crews found the man who was missing after a “possible drowning” at Porcupine Reservoir in northern Utah.

The man — identified by the sheriff’s office as a Utah State University student-athlete — was found just after 9 p.m. on Saturday by the dive team with the Utah Department of Public Safety.

“Our initial investigation leads us to believe this is a tragic accident as multiple witnesses recount the same information,” the sheriff’s office said in an update Saturday night.

The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the student and said his name would “be withheld until additional notifications can occur.”

“We ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to perform their duties without hindrance,” the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials did not disclose any additional information about the individual who may have drowned but said more information about the situation would be released when it became available.

“We understand the concern and anxiety this incident may cause within the community,” the sheriff’s office said.
