LOGAN, Utah ( ABC4 ) — At the beginning of July 2024, Utah State University announced its “intent to terminate” head football coach Blake Anderson — and soon after that announcement, the university fired Austin Albrecht, Jerry Bovee, and Amy Crosbie from the athletics department.

In a letter dated July 29 — addressed to the Utah Board of Higher Education and the Utah State Board of Trustees — 111 current and former student-athletes from USU called for a “full and transparent investigation” into the “questionable” dismissals of Bovee and Crosbie.

“The University has provided very little information concerning Mr. Bovee’s and no information concerning Mrs. Crosbie’s sudden dismissals,” the letter said.

Prior to her termination, Crosbie served as the executive associate athletics director for internal affairs and senior woman administrator at USU for about five years. The university did not initially disclose the reasoning behind her termination.

Bovee was the associate vice president and deputy athletic director of external affairs. In a statement on its website , the university said Bovee was fired “for violations of university policies related to the reporting of sexual and domestic violence and failures of professional responsibilities.”

The letter signed by the student-athletes said an investigation should be conducted by a third party with no relation to USU, its athletics department, or any employees involved in the termination of Bovee and Crosbie.

The letter called Bovie and Crosbie “true-blooded Aggies” and detailed their history in the athletics department and at the university.

“Their dismissal is a loss for current and future athletes and the whole of Utah State Athletics, a loss that will be felt immediately and moving forward,” the letter said.

Gary Wilkinson , USU class of 2009, was one of the supporters who signed the letter. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2024 and said the university should be handled “in a manner consistent with Aggie values.”

“While much remains unknown about the facts surrounding the termination of Jerry Bovee and Amy Crosbie, what I know for certain is that these two deserve better,” Wilkinson said.

Former volleyball player and Hall of Famer Erin Cartwright-Davis , USU class of 2004, also signed the letter, saying Crosbie has “always worked to do what’s best” for student-athletes.

The letter said that those who signed the letter “can unequivocally and without any hesitation state that in our experience, they are individuals of integrity and prioritize doing the right thing.”
