LOGAN, WV (WOWK) — Downtown Logan has been turned into a carnival for this week’s West Virginia Freedom Festival.
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the Freedom Festival, as parking lots and empty patches of grass are taken over by carnival rides and food trucks.
13 News spoke to the Mayor of Logan, Serafino Nolletti, who said that every year hundreds of people flock to the small city for the Festival.
“We bring people in from our neighboring counties, neighboring towns, but it’s just grown every year. That’s what we try to focus on, getting people into our town that have maybe never been to our town,” said Noletti.
A new band took the mainstage each night, right across from the historic Coal Field Jamboree Theatre.
On Wednesday, a Heart and Journey tribute band called “Journey from the Heart” rocked the streets of Logan.
Thursday night, a Chicago tribute band known as “Beginnings” will take stage. Friday night will see a switch in genres with “Lonestar” performing country music while Saturday is headlined by “Party On the Moon” playing a mix of pop hits that span over the past five decades.
Mayor Noletti reflected on the Freedom Festivals humble beginnings and how it has gotten so large in its 25-year history.
“It started as a four hour event, three or four vendors, a small firework show and a D.J. We’ve just added to it and added to it each year until we got to where we are today,” Noletti said.
The Freedom Festival will cap off with a fireworks show Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. in downtown Logan.
