The ex-boyfriend of a pregnant teen found dead in the woods has been charged with lying to the police, Georgia authorities say.

Jesus Monroy, 20, was arrested Wednesday, July 17 in connection with the disappearance of 16-year-old Mia Campos, according to the Gwinnett Police Department.

Campos’ family members discovered her body July 15 in a wooded area near a road in Loganville, police said in a news release.

They went looking for her after the teen left with a stranger the night before and never returned home, according to investigators. A cell phone app led relatives to her remains.

It initially wasn’t clear how Campos died, but an autopsy determined her death was a homicide, police said. Authorities haven’t disclosed how Monroy was involved.

He remained in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond as of Wednesday afternoon, online records show.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Loganville is about a 40-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
