Keep up with the Week 8 action on the lohud Boys Lacrosse Scoreboard

We're on the eve of the playoffs.

Seeds for all of the postseason tournaments will be out this week, and in Section 1 there are still teams jockeying for position. Keep an eye out for our preview package and live brackets.

    Here's the abbreviated schedule:

    Tuesday

    Pleasantville 11, Somers 10 OT

It took a minute, but Pleasantville did eventually catch on and catch up.

After playing a string of league games against opponents that were not equipped to deal with the defending Section 1 Class D champions, the Panthers were a step slow Tuesday against Somers.

They were staring down a five-goal deficit early in the second quarter.

And then Pleasantville picked up where it left off two weeks ago, netted five unanswered goals to close out the half, let a late-game lead slip away, then beat the Tuskers 11-10 in overtime when Erik Coleman found Aidan Cotter on the opposite side of the crease.

"It took a quarter to shake off the rust," Panthers midfielder Daniel Picart said. "We gave them some quick and easy goals. I wish we could’ve had a better start, but we really showed a lot of effort coming back and going on a 5-0 run and tying it up with not time on the clock heading into halftime. If we can get through a stretch of games like that and then come out and beat a team like Somers, I think we are ready."

There are some corrections to make before the playoffs begin next week.

Matt Mayfield stormed in for a goal to give Somers a 5-0 head start in the first minute of the second quarter. Cotter ended the run a short time later and Nick Reich, Michael Hundzynski and Hank McCourtney kept the rally going. Cotter beat the clock on the run to make it 5-5 contest heading into the intermission.

Picart had Pleasantville up 9-6 in the closing minutes of the third quarter, but Mayfield stormed in with a face-off win and netted the equalizer with 4:27 to go.

"We’re definitely feeling very confident going into the playoffs but we understand that there are things we can get better at every day at practice," Panthers midfielder Emmet McDermott said. "We are not done climbing the mountain. We’re getting ourselves in position, but we’re still working toward our best ball."

    What it means

Pleasantville went 11-0 against Section 1 opponents and will head into sectionals as the No. 1 seed. The Panthers aren't likely to be threatened until the Class D final so they might need at least one scrimmage against another team with title aspirations in order to keep the intensity where it was in the final three quarters of Tuesday's game.

Somers only needs to slow down when momentum begins to slip. A couple of extended possessions might've ended the comeback, but the Tuskers were in a rush to pile up more goals and fueled Pleasantville's rally.

    Player of the game

Cotter was in the right place at the right time more than once.
