Lake Mahopac had a star-studded guest on Petra Island over the weekend.
Rumors circulated on social media Thursday evening that Youtuber and boxer Jake Paul and his crew were the new kids on the block at the Massaro House on Petra Island.
A video was posted to TikTok by user ryzy15 Thursday afternoon, captioned "Jake Paul sighting in Mahopac." In the video, several pontoon boats and kayaks were seen on Lake Mahopac near the house. A kayaker is heard saying, "Hi Jake," to which Paul appears to respond, "Hey, buddy."
Other Putnam County community groups were buzzing with the news of a helicopter landing on the Massaro House's roof, possibly containing the star-studded guest.
Paul, who is known for his controversial videos and gutsy fights in and out of the ring, seemed to confirm the rumor after he posted videos to his Instagram story Thursday evening of his helicopter ride, a police boat escort by Carmel Police down Lake Mahopac, and his posse in the famous house.
However, despite rumors of Paul making Massaro House the new "content house," the boxer and his influencer posse affiliated with the company Betr, only stayed a couple of nights to enjoy the scenery of Lake Mahopac.
Paul, originally from Westlake, Ohio, got his big break in 2013 by making short six-second videos on the now-deprecated Vine platform with his older brother Logan. He began making YouTube videos in 2014 with content ranging from pranks to hip-hop parodies and even acted in the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark in 2016, but Paul and his brother quickly became controversial figures in the content creator sphere with creator collective Team 10, a new trend in social media entertainment centered on collaboration.
Neighbors of the original Team 10 house in California complained about the behavior coming from the house and threatened to sue Paul and the group in 2017 after swarms of young kids came to the building almost daily to try to catch a glimpse of him.
In 2018, he launched his fighting career and has famously faced off against several UFC fighters, including Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley. The junior heavyweight is scheduled to return to the ring against boxing legend Mike Tyson on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The Massaro House was built on Petra Island, one of three islands on the 587-acre Lake Mahopac, by sheet metal contractor Joseph Massaro in 1996. The house was originally designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1949 but was never fully finished by him due to budget constraints. Instead, Wright built a three-bedroom guest house on the property.
Massaro bought the property and finished the building as it was designed by Wright. It was finished in 2007 and was said to be the largest house Wright had ever designed . The house includes a helipad, dock and beach, and is only accessible by boat or helicopter.
The Massaro House had been looked at by several celebrities for purchase, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie back in 2013. It was most recently listed for sale starting at $9.95 million in 2021 . Groups like Wright Over Water and Wander make the house available for brief Airbnb-esque stays and tours while unoccupied with prices listed near $2,000 a night.
Paul said his company Betr partnered with Wander to rent the house for content creation. Owner Donna Massaro said Paul and his posse left the home Sunday.
