Riding the school bus is a big step for the littlest ones.

And teaching safety is paramount, as the new school year beckons.

So in Yonkers, Pre-K, kindergarten and first-grade students got a recent preview, exploring a bus at the school  district’s First Time Riders School Bus Safety and School Orientation program.

At various elementary schools, principals greeted families for an orientation. A tour of a school bus followed, as a driver walked everyone through bus safety procedures and information, according to the school district. Students got to practice putting on a seatbelt and using a handrail.

One such event was at William Boyce Thompson School. Yonkers' new Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr. and Rosalba Corrado Del Vecchio, president of the Yonkers Board of Education president, participated.
